Design and Weight
The YMZ Eagle1 DJI O3 FPV Micro Quad is an interesting drone that offers a unique flying experience. However, one aspect that stood out during my test flights was the extra weight of the drone. This extra weight was noticeable in the non-stabilized flight footage, as the drone seemed a little out of control at times. It is important to note that the heavy weight of the drone is due to the power setup.
Motor Size and Controllability
In my opinion, using a slightly bigger motor would have improved the overall performance of the drone. Instead of the 1204 motor, an 1106 motor would have been a better choice for a 2-inch build. Although this would have increased the weight slightly, it would have provided better controllability. The 124 motor is more efficient than the 1106, but there are trade-offs in terms of controllability.
Wider Stater and Prop Blockage
Another consideration when choosing the motor size is the width of the Stater and the potential prop blockage. A wider Stater, such as a 1304, could be used to make the drone slightly wider. However, this would result in blocking a significant portion of the propeller. These trade-offs highlight the downsides of having a heavier 2-inch build.
Potential Improvement with a Larger Frame
To enhance flight characteristics, it would be beneficial to upgrade to a 2.5-inch build. By using a larger frame and longer arms, the drone would have better flight characteristics. I believe that a 2.5-inch version of this drone would fly much smoother and offer improved control. I would recommend the manufacturer to consider developing a 2.5-inch version in the future.
Untested Performance on Different Batteries
During my review, I did not have the opportunity to fly the drone with a 380 battery. Therefore, I cannot provide a detailed analysis of its performance on that specific battery. However, I do believe that it would perform better than the Forest 450 that I tested previously.
