Initial Thoughts
The Normal Tomir 2.0 has recently been released as an upgraded version of the original Tomir. The company claims to have addressed all the little problems present in the first version based on community feedback. This begs the question is it worth the extra cost or should you stick with the original Tomir? Let’s delve into the details to find out.
Performance and Comfort
Having put the Normal Tomir 2.0 through its paces with 50 miles of running, including a technical race with significant elevation gain, I can attest to its high performance and comfort levels. The shoe handled various terrains with ease, showcasing its versatility and durability. The rip-stop TP material used in the upper proved to be highly abrasion-resistant, just as in the original version.
Comparison with the Original Tomir
When comparing the Normal Tomir 2.0 with the original Tomir, it is clear that both shoes share the same quality and durability in terms of the upper material. However, the improvements made in the 2.0 version, based on user feedback, have added value to the overall performance and comfort.
Price Consideration
While the Normal Tomir 2.0 comes at a higher price point than the original Tomir, the enhanced features and fixes to previous issues make it a worthwhile investment for serious runners and outdoor enthusiasts. The added cost is justified by the superior performance and durability offered by the upgraded version.
Improved Toe Protection
One of the notable upgrades in the Nnormal Tomir 2 is the addition of a toe protection in the front of the shoe. This feature is particularly useful on rugged and technical terrains, preventing any injuries or discomfort from toe impacts. The enhancement in toe protection is a welcomed addition to the shoe, making it more versatile for different types of running conditions.
Enhanced Lacing System
The unilateral lacing system of the Nnormal Tomir 2 continues to impress, offering a secure and custom fit for runners. The introduction of anti-slippery shoelaces in this model is a game changer, addressing one of the major concerns from the original Tomir. The anti-slip feature ensures that the shoelaces stay in place even in wet conditions, providing a hassle-free running experience without having to constantly readjust the laces.
Comfort and Adjustability
The upper of the Nnormal Tomir 2 remains largely similar to its predecessor, with added padding around the ankle for improved comfort. The heel lock feature ensures a secure fit, reducing the chances of slippage or discomfort during runs. However, some users may find the tongue of the shoe slightly lacking in comfort, requiring adjustments in how the shoelaces are tied to find the optimal balance between support and comfort.
Midsole Integration
One innovative feature that Nnormal introduced in the original Tomir and continues in the Tomir 2 is the integration of the midsole to the upper for enhanced durability. This design choice contributes to the longevity of the shoe, making it a reliable option for long-distance runners or those who put their shoes through tough terrains regularly.
Durability
I think other shoe companies should do the same, because that would add to the life of the shoe. However, they did one little mistake. They did not sue in the front of the shoe. What happened after like 40 miles the front it started to peel off. For me, and I was worried that that’s going to be a problem, but in the new version the 2.0, as you can see, they made the whole seing all around the mid, sole, and all around in the front. So now it’s an even more durable shoe.
Midsole Upgrade
I think the biggest upgrade on the Tomir 2.0 is the midsole. The first Tomir had an Eva 50 low density, foam Mito, which was just not there yet. I feel like it was just too hard. It was not flexible, it was not as comfortable, it made me use the shoe just for hiking. I needed something more, a little bit more cushion a little bit more flexibility. Now the new Tomir 2.0 actually is using their flagship model midsole, the Shirag midsole, which is an exp 45C super critical foam. This super critical foam increases cushioning and energy saving while you are running – and it definitely feels more cushioned, more bouncy, just like a lot more fun to run in the new Tomir 2.0 than the original version.
Improved Rocking Shape
Besides the midsole, the Tomir 2.0 has an improved rocking shape. These improvements, along with the upgraded midsole, make for a much better, smooth running experience in this shoe. The combination of these features provides a more comfortable and enjoyable running experience.
Stack Height and Weight
The Tomir 2.0 maintains the 8 mm drop but has slightly altered the stack height. It now features a 33 mm stack height in the back and 25 mm in the front, compared to the original version which had 31 mm at the back and 23 mm in the front. The higher stack height in the Tomir 2.0 provides added support and cushioning for the runner. In terms of weight, the Tomir 2.0 weighs 288 G in a US 9 size, slightly more than the Tomir 1.0 which weighed 284 G.
Durability and Grip
When considering the Tomir 2.0, two key factors come to mind: durability and grip. The shoe is exceptionally durable, built to withstand various terrains and obstacles. It is reminiscent of a tank in its sturdy construction, ensuring it can handle any challenge thrown its way. Additionally, the Vibram light-based Mega Grip outsole offers outstanding traction. The 5mm lugs provide a secure grip on muddy, wet, dry, and technical terrains. The Tomir 2.0 boasts one of the best grips on the market, making it a reliable choice for runners seeking superior traction.
Enhanced Design Features
One notable difference between the Tomir 2.0 and the original version is the wider base and increased surface area on the outsole. This design modification contributes to improved stability and traction, particularly on challenging terrains. The updated design elements in the Tomir 2.0 enhance the overall performance and versatility of the shoe, making it a preferred choice for runners looking for a reliable and durable option.
Design
The design of the Tomir 2 doesn’t stray too far from the original Tomir. The overall look is quite similar, but there have been some changes in terms of colors. The new version features a striking green sole with black accents, which adds a nice touch to the aesthetics. For those who preferred the all-black design of the previous model, that option is still available. Overall, if you were a fan of the design of the original Tomir, chances are you’ll also appreciate the design of the Tomir 2.
Fit
When it comes to fit, the Tomir 2 offers a very similar feel to the original Tomir. It retains the unilateral lacing system that allows you to secure your feet comfortably. However, some users have noted that the upper of the shoe is quite flexible and lacks structure, which may lead to a less secure feel for some individuals. This can be a matter of personal preference, so it’s important to consider this aspect if you’re thinking about purchasing the Tomir 2.
Comfort
One area where the Tomir 2 shines is in terms of comfort. Thanks to the improved midsole, this version is significantly more comfortable than its predecessor. If comfort is a top priority for you when it comes to footwear, the Tomir 2 might be worth considering for its enhanced level of comfort.
Overall
Ultimately, whether the Tomir 2 is better than the original Tomir will depend on your personal preferences and priorities. If you prioritize comfort above all else, the Tomir 2’s improved midsole might make it a better choice for you. However, if design and fit are more important factors for you, you may find that the differences between the two models are not substantial enough to warrant an upgrade. As always, it’s a good idea to try on the shoe and see how it feels for yourself before making a decision.
Design and Insole Upgrade
The new Tomir 2 showcases some noticeable upgrades from the original version, with one significant improvement being the insole. The insole now comes with a molded arch for better support and a more cushioned feel. This upgrade is a game-changer for users, especially those who require additional support due to high arches. The option to switch out the insole for custom ones adds greater versatility to the shoe.
Performance on Different Terrains
One of the major drawbacks of the original Tomir was its stiffness and rough feel, particularly when running on roads. However, the new Tomir 2 has addressed this issue by enhancing its performance on various terrains. Users have reported a smoother and more comfortable experience while running on roads, trails, and even technical terrains. The improved midsole has significantly contributed to a more enjoyable running experience.
Pricing and Value
While the new Tomir 2 comes with a price tag of $170, compared to the original Tomir priced at $130, the $40 difference may raise some eyebrows. Users will need to assess whether the new upgrades justify the increase in price. However, for those who require a versatile and durable shoe that can handle a range of activities, the investment may be well worth it.
Target Audience
The Tomir 2 is designed for individuals looking for a high-performance shoe that can seamlessly transition from hiking to trail running to technical trail racing. Its durability, grip, and overall versatility make it a suitable choice for outdoor enthusiasts who engage in a variety of activities. As Kilian Jornet, the renowned trail runner, aptly put it, the Tomir 2 is truly a beast of a shoe that can handle anything thrown its way.
Design and Features
The original Tomir was praised for its sleek and minimalistic design, which made it a popular choice among users. Tomir 2, on the other hand, takes the design to the next level with a more modern and streamlined look. The new version features smoother edges and a thinner profile, making it easier to hold and operate.
Performance and Battery Life
One of the biggest upgrades in Tomir 2 is its improved performance and battery life. The new model boasts a faster processor and longer battery life, making it more efficient for everyday tasks and gaming. Users have reported a significant improvement in speed and responsiveness when using Tomir 2 compared to the original version.
Camera and Imaging
Another area where Tomir 2 shines is in its camera and imaging capabilities. The new model features an upgraded camera with higher resolution and improved low-light performance. This results in sharper and more vibrant images, making Tomir 2 a great choice for photography enthusiasts.
Software and User Interface
Tomir 2 comes with the latest version of the operating system, which offers a more intuitive and user-friendly interface. The new software includes additional features and customization options, allowing users to personalize their experience. Overall, the updated software adds to the overall user experience of Tomir 2.
The Tomir 2.0 builds upon the success of the original Tomir model by introducing enhanced features such as a higher stack height, improved durability, and superior grip. While the weight of the Tomir 2.0 may be slightly higher than its predecessor, the added benefits in terms of performance and longevity make it a worthy upgrade. Overall, the Tomir 2.0 proves to be a reliable and durable trail running shoe that delivers exceptional grip and stability, making it a top choice for runners seeking a high-performance shoe for various terrains.
Overall, Tomir 2 is a significant upgrade from the original Tomir, offering improved design, performance, camera quality, and software features. While the original Tomir was a great device in its own right, Tomir 2 takes things to the next level and is definitely worth considering for those in the market for a new phone.
