Learning and Pushing Boundaries
IGOW Season 4 provided participants with plenty of opportunities for growth and learning. The challenges presented in this season pushed pilots to learn new tricks and skills, breaking them down step by step. This not only helped them expand their repertoire but also had the added benefit of setting goals for the pilots. The drive to achieve these goals and try new things helped them to constantly improve and become better pilots. The emphasis on learning and pushing boundaries is undoubtedly one of the biggest advantages of participating in IGOW Season 4.
Focus on Fun and Flying
While competition is a part of IGOW Season 4, the primary focus is on the fun and enjoyment of flying. It is not solely about who had the best flight or executed the best trick. Some of the most memorable moments from the season came from unexpected and entertaining videos. The unconventional, funny, and interesting flights made the experience enjoyable for both the participants and the viewers. The emphasis on fun and flying, regardless of performance, made IGOW Season 4 a truly unique and engaging event.
Opportunities for the Competitive
IGOW Season 4 caters to a wide range of participants, including those who thrive on competition. For the pilots in the top tier, the season offered the chance to compete for a spot on the Tiny Whoop team and become a professional pilot. However, even if the overall gold was not the ultimate goal, there were still numerous ways to enjoy and excel in IGOW Season 4. Pilots had the freedom to showcase their creativity and fly in unconventional, off-the-wall ways, which allowed for unique and exciting videos. This flexibility and variety gave participants the chance to explore their own creativity and style.
Fun-filled Weeks
One of the highlights of IGOW Season 4 were the fun weeks, specifically the scavenger hunt and building dive weeks. These weeks provided a platform for pilots to showcase their skills in innovative ways. It was fascinating to see the various dives and challenges that participants undertook. The creativity displayed during these weeks was truly remarkable and added an extra layer of excitement to the season. The fun-filled weeks not only showcased the pilots’ abilities but also fostered a sense of community as participants eagerly watched and supported each other.
Overall, IGOW Season 4 proved to be an exhilarating and rewarding experience for all involved. The competition, focus on fun and flying, opportunities for creativity, and the entertaining fun weeks made the season stand out. It provided a space for pilots to learn, grow, and explore their potential while building connections with fellow enthusiasts. Participating in IGOW Season 4 was undoubtedly a unique and enriching experience that left pilots feeling inspired and motivated.

Collaboration among Pilots
Throughout IGOW Season 4, one of the most noticeable aspects was the collaboration and support among pilots. This was evident not only on YouTube and other live streams but also on the Discord platform. Regardless of what the pilots were engaged in, whether it was seeking feedback on their work or requesting assistance with a particular trick, there was always a group of people willing to help and encourage each other. The sense of camaraderie and genuine desire for fellow pilots to succeed was truly remarkable.
Reflecting on my Experience
Now that I have shared what I truly enjoyed about IGOW Season 4, I would like to discuss how I plan to approach next year’s competition differently. One area where I aim to improve is in reading and reviewing the challenge instructions more carefully. In week six, I encountered a setback as I received my first letter. The challenge required me to perform a front flip into an inverted yaw spin and then execute a half front flip to complete the trick. Unfortunately, I overlooked the specific requirement to finish the trick within the inverted yaw spin. Instead, I inadvertently reverted out of the trick, resulting in an incomplete execution. This oversight frustrated me greatly, and it emphasized the importance of paying attention to all the details in the challenge descriptions.
Adapting to Challenges
Moving forward, I intend to approach each challenge with meticulous attention to detail. By thoroughly comprehending the instructions and reviewing my video footage carefully, I hope to avoid any similar mishaps in the future. It is crucial to ensure that every element of the trick aligns with the challenge requirements, especially when it comes to the execution and completion of the trick itself. Learning from my previous experience, I now recognize the significance of focusing on both the individual components and the overall objectives of each challenge.
Fun and Relaxation
One aspect that made IGOW Season 4 enjoyable was the emphasis on having fun and fostering a relaxed atmosphere. This was a refreshing change from the usual competitive nature of such events. It allowed pilots to let go of any pressure and simply enjoy flying their whoops. Despite the challenges and occasional setbacks, the overall experience was incredibly enjoyable. As a result, I was able to create a video that I am genuinely proud of and would encourage others to check out.

Improving for the Next Year
Despite its small size, IGOW Season 4 was a valuable experience for me. It highlighted areas where I can improve as a pilot. Moving forward, I will take these lessons to heart and strive to become a better pilot in the next season.
One key takeaway from this season is the importance of thoroughly reading the IGA challenges and carefully reviewing my video after completion. This ensures that I don’t miss any crucial details or make avoidable mistakes. Additionally, I have learned the value of having a friend review my video as well. External perspectives can often catch mistakes that I might have overlooked.
Managing Time and Commitments
During this season, I found myself juggling multiple commitments simultaneously, which proved to be challenging. In addition to participating in IGOW Season 4, I was also involved in the last season of the Bot Grinder Battle Leagues, where I had to create a two-minute freestyle edit every week. On top of that, I had the added joy and responsibility of welcoming my newborn son into the world. Balancing all these aspects caused me to experience stress and anxiety at times.
Focus and Enjoyment in the Next Season
Looking ahead to the next season of IGOW, I will make it a priority to not overexert myself with additional commitments. This will allow me to fully focus and enjoy my participation in IGOW. I want to approach the competition with a clear mind and undivided attention.
Being Prepared
One aspect I didn’t anticipate was the difficulty in sourcing spare parts during the IGOW competition. Motors, batteries, and other essential components can become scarce as all pilots are vying for the same resources. To avoid any unnecessary delays or setbacks, I will ensure that I have extra parts on hand for the next season. This will enable me to swiftly replace any damaged or worn-out components without any interruptions to my progress.
Preparing for the Season
As the IGOW Season 4 comes to an end, many participants, including myself, have realized the importance of being well-prepared before the season starts. It is crucial to have a stock of essential items such as frames, motors, propellers, and batteries. This way, one can avoid the worry of breaking something while attempting tricks or combos and having to wait for spare parts to complete their videos.
Avoiding Procrastination
One of the most challenging things to do differently next year is to avoid procrastination. It was evident in my videos that there were occasions where I found myself rushing to finish the trick or combo just before the submission deadline. If I had started earlier, I would have had more time to practice and perfect certain combinations, like the Kalisto combo. Next year, I plan to start the challenge as soon as it is announced, allowing me ample time to complete the video and truly enjoy the rest of the week without any last-minute stress.
Recommendations for New Pilots
For new pilots looking to join IGOW next season, I have some recommendations to help you make the most of your experience:
Be Prepared: Before the season starts, ensure that you have a stock of spare parts, including frames, motors, propellers, and batteries. This will save you from unnecessary delays and frustration when something breaks.
Start Early: Don’t wait until the last moment to start working on your video. Starting as soon as the challenge is announced will give you more time to practice, refine your skills, and perfect your tricks and combos.
Focus on Practice: Dedicate sufficient time to practice each trick and combo. Remember, quality beats quantity. It’s better to submit a well-executed and thoughtfully crafted video than rushing through multiple attempts.
Enjoy the Journey: While the challenge can be intense and competitive, remember to enjoy the process. Flying drones is about having fun and pushing your limits. Embrace the learning experience and connect with fellow pilots to make the most of IGOW.
By following these recommendations, new pilots can enhance their IGOW experience and maximize their potential in the competition. Whether you are a seasoned participant or a beginner, IGOW offers an incredible platform to showcase your skills, learn from others, and grow as a drone pilot. So gear up, stay focused, and get ready for an exhilarating season!
The Importance of Pushing Yourself
Pushing oneself is a key aspect of growth and learning in any competition, and IGOW Season 4 is no exception. While it may sound crass, pushing yourself is essential for pilots to truly learn and develop their skills. By setting goals and challenges for yourself, you create a definitive marker to strive towards. This not only makes learning new tricks easier but also accelerates your progression as a pilot.
Know Your Limits
However, it is important to find a balance between pushing yourself and ensuring your own well-being. If you find yourself constantly breaking your equipment or unable to afford repairs, it might be time to evaluate your approach. Additionally, if you have other priorities such as family or friends, it is crucial to give yourself the space and time to attend to those matters. Mental health should never be compromised for the sake of a competition. If you need a break, take it. Your well-being should always come first.
Enjoyment is the Key
While IGOW Season 4 is a competition, it is crucial to remember that it is meant to be fun. If you find yourself not enjoying the process, take a step back and reconsider your approach. There is no shame in taking a night or even a week off to recharge and regain your enthusiasm. It is important not to overly stress about failure or not being able to complete a trick. Remember, it’s about having fun with whoops, and a setback in one week does not define your overall progress.
A Personal Perspective
Speaking from personal experience, I have learned that it is vital not to let failure or setbacks discourage me. While it can be disappointing to not achieve a specific trick or letter in the competition, it is essential to maintain a positive mindset. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects, focus on the journey and the joy of flying whoops. With determination and a fun-loving attitude, you will continue to grow and improve as a pilot, whether you excel in the competition or not.
IGOW Season 4 has provided pilots with a platform to challenge themselves, learn, and have fun. By pushing oneself, but also knowing one’s limits and prioritizing mental health, pilots can maximize their growth and enjoyment in the competition. Remember, it’s not just about winning, but also about the love of flying whoops and the community that supports it.

Fairness in Grading and Rule Application
Dan, the judge of IGOW Season 4, has proven to be extremely fair in his grading and rule application. While his strictness may vary from week to week, overall, his judging is considered very fair. Participants need not worry too much if they make mistakes or fail in their attempts. One failure or even receiving a single letter grade will not eliminate them from the competition. It is important to remember that participation and pushing oneself to attempt the tricks is a great achievement in itself. Not everyone can fly a tiny whoop at any level, so celebrating one’s effort and progress is crucial. Participants should submit their attempts and videos, showcasing what they were trying to achieve and how they were progressing. There is no shame in failure because we all experience it at some point. Only one person can win, so even if participants don’t complete a challenge, it is still highly recommended to submit a video.
Managing Difficulty and Steep Learning Curves
Participants need to be aware that the difficulty of the challenges in IGOW Season 4 will increase as the competition progresses. This increase in difficulty may feel steep at times, especially during the transition from simpler tricks to more complex and precise maneuvers. Some participants may find themselves struggling in certain areas, like intricate combos that require precise flying skills. Recognizing one’s weaknesses is important, but it is also essential to acknowledge personal growth and improvements made throughout the season.
Throughout the competition, SodiumFree has shown significant progress and development:
Week 7 to Week 8: Overcoming Weaknesses
SodiumFree highlights their personal struggle when the competition shifted from single trick tricks or basic combos to more complicated combinations that demanded high precision flying. This area proved to be SodiumFree’s weakest point. However, their determination and effort pushed them to become better. Despite the challenges faced, they managed to navigate through the difficult combos and showed commendable growth.
IGOW Season 4 has provided participants like SodiumFree with an opportunity to not only showcase their skills but also to challenge themselves and overcome personal weaknesses. The competition’s emphasis on progress and effort rather than perfection has created a supportive environment for individuals to learn, grow, and enjoy the thrill of flying. As the competition wraps up, it will be exciting to see the final submissions and witness the incredible journey of all the participants.

Challenges and Failures
Now, after participating in IGA, I understand that eventually you’re going to get to something you can’t do. There are very few pilots who can do every single challenge. I think there was at least one week where there was only one pilot out of the entire group of 1700+ pilots that could do the challenge. So, it does get pretty tough and you’re going to fail eventually. But don’t worry about it. If you feel like the difficulty is ramping up, send your attempts, give it a whirl, and see what you can do. There’s always one or two different parts of the challenge, and maybe if you can get part A submit that, eventually, everybody is going to get a letter this season. I don’t think there were any clean slates by the end of it. There’s only really one winner, so don’t worry. If you do feel like you get to a week where you can’t complete some challenges, it happens to all of us. Again, like I said before, submit those attempts, show off what you can do, and even if you don’t think you could do the trick, it’s still worth trying. Progression happens when you least expect it.
Recommendations for New Pilots
Now that we’ve gone through my recommendations for new pilots, what I’m going to do differently next year, and what I loved about IGA this season 4, I want to give you my goals for season 5.
Goal of IGOW Season 4
The IGOW Season 4 competition has officially concluded, and it’s time to review the accomplishments and aspirations of one of the participants, SodiumFree. Throughout the season, SodiumFree had certain objectives in mind that he aimed to achieve. Let’s take a closer look at these goals and evaluate his performance.
Achieving Top Videos
SodiumFree’s primary goal was to secure two top videos in the competition. Winning wasn’t his ultimate aim; rather, he wanted to be recognized as one of the standout contenders. Surprisingly, SodiumFree not only achieved this feat once but accidentally managed it twice during the previous season. Determined to surpass his past accomplishments, he set an even higher target of attaining three top videos this year.
Reaching Week 10 with a Clean Slate
Another objective that SodiumFree set for himself was to reach Week 10 of the competition without any strikes against his name. Since the specific challenges of each week were unknown, this goal seemed challenging. However, SodiumFree believed that by adopting a different approach and implementing certain strategies, he could have achieved a flawless record in the previous season itself. Thus, he aimed to accomplish this challenging feat in the upcoming season.
Flying with Another Pilot
Lastly, SodiumFree expressed a desire to collaborate with other talented pilots during the next season. New York City, where SodiumFree resides, has a vibrant FPV community, including the renowned pilot FPV Vegan. SodiumFree acknowledged FPV Vegan’s exceptional skills in gorilla whoop flying and desired to fly alongside him. By doing so, he hoped to explore different dynamics and submit a video capturing the thrilling experience of chasing another whoop through various challenges.

SodiumFree is determined to accomplish this goal in the upcoming year, considering it to be a feasible target. Winter practice sessions will be crucial in sharpening their piloting abilities. SodiumFree is ready to make a blazing come back next season with the impressive Kalisto combo.
Bringing Back Whoop Crimes
As an inside joke among those who participated in season 4 of IGOW, SodiumFree had the idea of bringing back “whoop crimes” next year. While the concept of whoop crimes remains vague, it adds an intriguing element to the future of IGOW. SodiumFree plans to incorporate this mystery into the next season, making it an exciting and humorous aspect of the competition.
Reflecting on IGOW Season 4
