Today we have something a little bit different. We have a review of The Fly flyland 85. First of all, a big thanks to my homies over there for hooking me up with this quad. I have full editorial control over this review and everything in this review is 100% truthful.
Technical Specifications
The Flywoo FlyLens 85 is a 2S brushless, tiny whoop with ducks that allow for safe flying around people. The version I tested was the DJI 03, which can record up to 4K in 120 frames per second. This makes it ideal for capturing interactions with people for social media or personal use.

The drone comes equipped with a 1000mAh 2S battery, which results in a total weight of 143g with the heaviest battery option. However, there is an issue with the battery labeling, as it does not indicate that it is a high voltage (HV) LiPo. This lack of information led to confusion initially.
Flight Performance
When initially flying the drone at 4.2 volts, there was a noticeable decrease in flight time, causing concern. After seeking advice from experienced flyers, it was confirmed that the battery is indeed a HV LiPo that should be charged up to 4.35 volts for optimal performance.
Regulatory Standards
Despite the absence of markings on the battery, Flywoo adheres to regulations by manufacturing all Explorer range batteries as LiHV. This information is essential for users to prevent any potential risks or damage during charging or operation.
Charging Safety Concerns
It is essential to note that any battery from Flywoo that isn’t an Explorer series should not be charged to 4.35 volts as it can pose a fire hazard. It is crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines to prevent accidents.
Flight Experience
Testing the Flywoo FlyLens 85 HD 2S Whoop revealed some issues initially, with the quadcopter jerking and drifting. While other reviewers have praised its performance, I encountered challenges that affected the smoothness of flight.
Troubleshooting
To address the flight issues, I experimented with different propellers. Switching to four-bladed props, specifically the Gemfan Hulk, significantly improved the performance of the drone, eliminating the jerking behavior.

There must have been an issue with the props, but again this is a real touch, feel feelings review. It flew brilliantly on the second set of props and not to mention the first set. I want to be honest with you, because if you come across this problem, there are lots of people on Facebook offering help.

There have been reports of a battery issue with the Flywoo FlyLens 85 HD 2S Whoop. Some users have experienced problems with the HV batteries. However, Flywoo has been responsive to customer feedback and has addressed this issue with the Explorer series.
GPS Troubleshooting
Another problem that was encountered was with the GPS not getting a lock. The reviewer was able to solve this issue by downloading the Betaflight app for Android and using a cable to connect the drone to the phone. After powering up without the receiver on, they were able to achieve a full lock and everything worked perfectly.

Setting Up & Testing
After turning on my goggles, I powered up the Flywoo FlyLens 85 HD 2S Whoop and let it sit for a minute to ensure it reached the optimal temperature for GPS locking. I then activated my radio and was pleased to see that I quickly acquired seven or eight satellite locks without any major issues.
GPS Functionality
Although I encountered a slight deviation during a return to home test, I attribute this to the miniature size of the quad and the nano GPS receiver it houses. While warming up the system may be a minor inconvenience, it’s a necessary compromise for such a compact setup.
Flight Performance
After confirming that the GPS, battery, and flight characteristics were all in working order, I took the FlyLens 85 HD 2S Whoop out for several flights in different locations. Maneuvering around obstacles such as trees proved to be a breeze, as the quad’s agility and responsiveness mimicked that of a larger 5-inch drone.
Agility and Handling
During split S and power loop maneuvers, the Flywoo FlyLens 85 HD 2S Whoop exhibited a rapid descent, characteristic of its smaller frame and 2-inch props. While navigating through tight spaces, hitting one’s own wake can pose a challenge, but this is to be expected given the nature of the quadcopter.
Flight Performance
In then, at the field we decided to try and fly tranquil and through the middle of the trees and the branches, and it did that absolutely brilliantly fantastic. We then took it to a local park, and this is, I think, where these things really Excel, because it weighs 143 G, it’s got ducks on it and it’s only got 2 in props flying it around people.
Legal Considerations
First of all, is totally legal, I mean so you can fly things over people, uh that’s under 2, 149 G. As long as it’s not a crowd. The air navigation order does State. You can’t fly it in a a way that will recklessly hurt or your people property. So obviously you can’t be doing. Um 200 300 400 foot Dives into the middle of a park next to people, because that is that is reckless, but you can do cinematic flying around people around like City, centers and stuff obvious, again making sure you’re, not Reckless so that’s, where it really excels.
Exploring Different Areas
So we took it to the park and we did some flying then there’s a little statue that’s just around the corner from there, so we did a little bit of flying around this statue type thing. I don’t know what it is. If you know what this is, I don’t know I at got a clue, and then we tried a little bit of high flying above these high-rise, block of Flats, again, not a problem for it.
Real, Honest Review
So I would say there are a few quirks with this quad and, like I say I could get into like really technical specs and it does this and that, but you’ve all seen it fly. You’ve all seen the sort of professional reviewers review it, and it’s good that somebody else who’s not a professional reviewer gets to get a unit and give you a real honest review because you know I’ve got, like I say, there’s no editorial control going on. What I say is entirely me, so that’s why I’ve been completely brutally honest.
Issues Addressed
First of all, how the batteries are labeled. Second, the issue with the first set of props, and third, the issue with the GPS. Some people have suggested: oh it’s not a problem if the GPS doesn’t work, just don’t fly it very far. The problem is it’s got an 03 air unit on it, and these things are worth a pretty penny. If you want to fly, let’s say over buildings, which is again totally legal and you’re not being reckless because you’ve got the ducks on, again not being reckless.
Importance of Honesty
Ultimately, these things cost a lot of money, and this is your hard-earned money. I don’t want to recommend something that I wouldn’t fly personally myself. What I could just say is ignore most of that and jump to the end and say: look at all these features, it’s brilliant, isn’t it? But that’s not what we’re about here. We’re about being honest.
GPS Technology for Safety
What you want is that GPS to work to know that if you fly over a building its not just going to drop its going to come back to you. If there are signal interference issues, the version I’ve got has got elrs on it. So the chance of any sort of issues is fairly minute, but the thing is with quads and FPV. There is always that possible chance that something will happen, so it’s really important to have that GPS there to make sure that if anything bad does happen, you’re not going to lose an 03 a unit.
LEDs for Visibility and Safety
What I would recommend is, if you are flying say around buildings and City centers, the LEDs that come with it. You can put on a switch on your controller and turn those off and that stops other people getting distracted by it, which keeps you from being accused of being Reckless.
Battery Compatibility
One of the things I did try is some GNB 2s HV lip holes. I tried a 850 pack, which has 120 C rating, a 720 pack, which has a 200 C rating, and a 660 pack which has a 180 rated. The 850 and the 720 fit the included battery adapters, but the 660 doesn’t. So you will need to find something to 3D print in order to make it fit, because the adapters that come with it are specifically made for Flywoo shaped and Siz batteries, and there are a few designs out there available to 3D print.
3D Printing Issue
I did intend to include it in this review. Unfortunately, when I tried to 3D print it, it didn’t actually work. I know why I know how to fix it. I just haven’t had the time to reprint it to show you out of those three batteries. If you were going to buy any of them, I would recommend the 72200 C above the others.
Battery Recommendation
The 850 doesn’t seem to have anywhere near the voltage of the 720 and the 660. I haven’t actually tried yet, so out of those three. I can give a genuine recommendation to the 720. The 850 I’m going to need to have a closer look. I’m not sure what’s going on with that and the 660. I just haven’t had a chance to fly.
Flight Experience
Flywoo provided some 5750 packs, but the ones sent to me were the 1000. What I have noticed is I’ve been flying the 720 pack for the last few days, and yesterday I actually tried the 1000 again and I notice how much heavier it is, and that’s brilliant for cinematic flying because you’re more planted. You can feel exactly where you’re going and everything’s a lot easier, but with the more agile style flying you’re really going to want that gampb, 720 or potentially fly who’s own 750 2s.
Recommendation
My biggest recommendation is, if you’re going to buy one of these, make sure you get an ND filter for the 03a unit.
