Introducing the DJI Mini 4 Pro: The Most AMAZING Tiny Drone Yet?
Tracking Mode: Pushing the Limits
Obviously, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is tiny and lightweight. As expected, it may be affected by gusts of wind, causing it to be pushed around during flight. However, in tracking mode, it performs remarkably well. I have tested it and it successfully tracked and recorded my movement. The footage was captured using the normal color profile, 8Bit in 4k, at 48 frames per second. The video quality was impressive, considering the size of the drone. As I walked along a trail, I saw the Mini 4 Pro’s tracking capabilities in action. The dense tree cover on both sides did not pose a problem due to its omnidirectional sensing feature.
The Upgrade from Mini 3 Pro
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the highly anticipated upgrade to its predecessor, the Mini 3 Pro. This is my first time using the drone to record most of this video, and I must say, it does not disappoint. The Mini 4 Pro retains the quiet operation of the Mini 3 Pro, with just a faint buzzing sound in the background. However, the Mini 4 Pro’s build is almost identical to its predecessor, with the addition of omnidirectional sensors. These sensors, along with a wide-angle lens pointed towards the sides, greatly enhance the drone’s capabilities.
Actual Sensing and Enhanced Tracking
The inclusion of omnidirectional sensors in the Mini 4 Pro is a major improvement. Users have long requested this feature in the Mini series, and DJI has finally delivered. These sensors allow for better obstacle avoidance, ensuring a safer flight experience. Furthermore, the 360-degree tracking feature adds another level of precision, allowing users to place the drone in specific positions for tracking purposes. This is a significant enhancement from previous models, making the Mini 4 Pro a game-changer in the world of tiny drones.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is an impressive tiny drone that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in its size range. With its advanced tracking capabilities, omnidirectional sensors, and improved build, it offers an unparalleled experience for drone enthusiasts. Whether you are a professional videographer or a hobbyist, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is definitely worth considering.

For drone enthusiasts and filmmakers alike, the DJI Mini 4 Pro offers an incredible range of features that will take your aerial photography and videography to new heights. Whether you’re a professional in need of cinematic shots or a hobbyist looking to capture stunning footage, this tiny drone packs a punch.
Unparalleled Flexibility with D-log M and HLG Color Profiles
One of the standout features of the DJI Mini 4 Pro is the inclusion of D-log M and HLG color profiles. Unlike its predecessor, the Mini 3 Pro, which only offered a flat color profile in 10-bit, the Mini 4 Pro provides users with the flexibility to color grade their footage. The D-log M profile, which is found on high-end drones like the Air 3 and Mavic 3 Pro, allows for more nuanced color adjustments in post-production. With the Mini 4 Pro, your footage can truly come to life with vibrant and accurate colors.
Slow Down Time with 4K 100 Frames Per Second
The Mini 4 Pro takes slow-motion capabilities to the next level with its 4K 100 frames per second option. Previously, the Mini 3 Pro was limited to 4K 60 frames per second. With the Mini 4 Pro, you can capture stunning slow-motion shots that will impress even the most discerning viewers. Whether it’s capturing the intricate details of a flower blooming or the awe-inspiring movements of a sports event, the Mini 4 Pro ensures that your footage is smooth and visually captivating.
Vertical Filming Made Effortless
One of the best features of the Mini 4 Pro is its ability to film in true vertical mode. This means that you no longer have to shoot in a horizontal format and crop it in post-production. With the Mini 4 Pro, you can effortlessly capture stunning vertical shots without any additional editing. Tracking Modes and Adjusting Parameters
The Mini 4 Pro also boasts exceptional tracking modes for both cars and people. Whether you want to film a fast-moving vehicle or capture the beauty of human movements, this drone has got you covered. Furthermore, you can easily adjust the parameters to customize the tracking experience according to your preferences. This versatility allows you to fine-tune your shots and capture stunning footage.
Sensor Dependency and Pilot’s Responsibility
While the DJI Mini 4 Pro comes equipped with sensors for obstacle detection, it is important to note that these should not be solely relied upon. As a pilot, your first and foremost responsibility is to be aware of your surroundings and exercise caution while flying the drone. While the sensors provide an added layer of safety, they should not replace the pilot’s judgment and situational awareness. Ultimately, you are in control.
Sensor Capabilities
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is equipped with a 1 over 1.3-inch sensor, which is currently a popular choice among DJI drones. This sensor, combined with an aperture of f/1.7, allows for exceptional video quality even in low light conditions. This means that you can capture stunning footage regardless of the time of day or lighting conditions.
Night Mode
One of the standout features of the DJI Mini 4 Pro is its night mode capability. This feature enables you to capture mesmerizing night shots with incredible detail and clarity. Whether you’re photographing a starry sky or a beautifully lit cityscape, the Mini 4 Pro ensures that your shots will look professional and breathtaking.
Enhanced Protection
DJI has introduced new features to enhance the durability and protection of the Mini 4 Pro. The drone now comes with a new belt and a redesigned gimbal protector, ensuring that your investment stays safe during transport and flight. Additionally, the Mini 4 Pro is equipped with sensors placed strategically around the drone to provide a wider range of vision and avoid collisions.
Improved Connectivity
The DJI Mini 4 Pro boasts improved connectivity options. It features a USB-C port and memory card slots at the back, allowing for faster data transfer and expanding storage capabilities. These enhancements ensure that you can easily access and transfer your footage without any hassle.
Personal Opinion
It is important to note that the DJI Mini 4 Pro was personally purchased and not sent for review by DJI. This means that all opinions expressed in this article are solely based on personal experience and observation. The Mini 4 Pro has impressed me with its outstanding performance and exceptional features. It is a drone that I highly recommend to anyone looking to elevate their aerial photography and videography skills.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is undeniably the most amazing tiny drone available in the market today. With its advanced sensor capabilities, night mode feature, enhanced protection, and improved connectivity, this drone is a game-changer. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned drone pilot, the Mini 4 Pro will undoubtedly exceed your expectations and take your aerial photography to new heights.
The Popular 1 over 1.3 Sensor Size
So the 1 over 1.3 in sensor size seems to be pretty popular with DJI right now. You’ve got it on the mini 3. Pro you’ve got it on the air3 series. One of the cameras on the mavic 3 Pro, which is the 3x camera, is also one over 1.3 in as well.
Height Restrictions in Europe
One more thing I want to clear is about the 120 M height restrictions that have been set for this drone in Europe now, according to Mike from drone Supremacy, DJI has removed that restriction, which is supposed to come into effect in January of 2024. But for now, they’ve removed it. So for those of you who’ve been wondering, um, those restrictions aren’t there for now, but I think in 2024 it’s going to be introduced again.
Filmmakers’ Needs
So a lot of filmmakers who wanted to get their own drone shots for b-roll or establishing shots wanted to get a drone like the mini. They wanted something that gives them more color grading flexibility in post. And now, with the Mini 4 Pro that is able to film in dlog m in 10-bit, they’re able to do so to match the footage of their other mirrorless cameras.
Improved Filming Capabilities
Now, the dlog is like the flat color profile available on the mini 3 Pro. It is flat, but not flat enough compared to dlog M or even dlog. Now dlog M sits somewhere in between dlog and decent, like. It’s pretty good and pretty easy to color grade, especially when it comes to filming low light scenes.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro seems to be a promising drone for filmmakers looking for a compact yet high-quality aerial filming tool. With its 1 over 1.3 sensor size and the removal of height restrictions in Europe, this drone offers improved capabilities to capture stunning shots. Filmmakers can now enjoy more color grading flexibility in post with its ability to film in dlog m in 10-bit. Whether it’s for b-roll footage or establishing shots, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is set to be the most amazing tiny drone yet.
The Mini 4 Pro’s Impressive Camera
The DJI Mini 4 Pro stands out with its amazing camera capabilities. Equipped with an almost 1-inch sensor and an f1.7 aperture, this tiny drone allows more light to enter the camera, resulting in excellent photography. While not much has changed in terms of photography compared to its predecessor, the Mini 4 Pro still impresses with its ability to shoot 48 megapixel and 12 megapixel photos.
What sets the Mini 4 Pro apart is the use of a quad bear sensor. While it shoots four 12-megapixel photos, it can produce images that appear like 48 megapixel shots. This feature comes in handy when you can’t fly too close to a subject and need to crop in post-production. By shooting in 12 megapixels and using apps like Topaz, you can achieve a higher resolution and crop into your photos without losing any detail.
The Incredible Waypoints Feature
One of the standout features of the DJI Mini 4 Pro is its ability to film in waypoints. This feature allows you to set specific points for the drone to follow, creating a predetermined flight path for recording hyperlapse videos. By utilizing this feature, you can capture shots that would otherwise be challenging to achieve manually.
As an experienced drone pilot, I often come across situations where there are shots I want to capture, but I struggle to do so manually. The waypoints feature on the Mini 4 Pro takes care of this problem, allowing the drone to navigate autonomously and capture footage with precision that surpasses what I can achieve manually.
A Step Towards Professional Filmmaking
With these advanced features and capabilities, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is inching closer to the realm of professional filmmaking. The high-quality camera and the ability to film in waypoints give users the opportunity to create stunning aerial footage that was previously only possible with more expensive and larger drones.
Additionally, the drone’s small size and lightweight design make it highly portable and easy to carry wherever you go. It’s the perfect companion for travel vloggers, adventure seekers, and filmmakers who want to capture breathtaking shots without the hassle of carrying bulky equipment.
The Size and Portability
The DJI Mini 4 Pro is a tiny drone that is perfect for both beginners and experienced pilots. One of its standout features is its small size. Being small and lightweight, it is incredibly portable. You can easily carry it around in your backpack or even in your pocket. This makes it ideal for those who are always on the go and love to capture moments wherever they are.
Omnidirectional Obstacle Avoidance
The Mini 4 Pro comes with an amazing feature called the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. This feature allows for 360-degree tracking, which was previously only available on higher-end drones like the Mavic 3 Series. With this feature, you can choose where the drone moves while it is tracking. You can simply place it on your screen and it will move in that direction, whether it is following a person or a vehicle. This gives you the freedom to capture different perspectives and angles while the drone is tracking.
Filming Hyperlapses
Despite its small size, the Mini 4 Pro does a great job of filming hyperlapses. However, due to its lightweight nature, it may get pushed around by gusts of wind. This can make stabilizing the hyperlapses a bit challenging during post-production. However, the drone itself does a commendable job of creating its own hyperlapses and stabilizing them to some extent.
An Ideal Beginner Drone
When it comes to beginners, the DJI Mini 4 Pro is an excellent choice. Its small size and portability make it easy to handle and carry around. It also offers features like omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, which were previously only available on higher-end drones. This allows beginners to explore their creativity and capture stunning footage from different angles. Additionally, the drone’s ability to create hyperlapses adds an extra level of excitement to the filming experience.
The Weight Advantage
Now, in most countries, you need to register and obtain a pilot certificate in order to fly your drones, but if you have a drone that’s below 250 g, you don’t need to do that.
However, in the US, for example, if you’re using it for commercial purposes, you still need to get your pilot certificate.
Vertical Mode and Gimbal Features
A lot of content creators who create vertical videos will appreciate this drone because it can shoot in true vertical mode.
The gimbal just shifts into a vertical mode, and you can frame your shot exactly the way you want it to be and want to look like in post, as opposed to filming in horizontal and then cropping in.
It’s got omnidirectional sensing and tracking features. Basically, it has all those features that a beginner would use and appreciate when buying their first drone or starting off flying a drone.
Omnidirectional Sensing and Tracking
You’ve got omnidirectional sensing and tracking features.
You can now use augmented reality to see the path it’s taking to return home. You can also see your home point on your screen.
Controller Considerations
However, something to note is that if you are getting this drone, you might want to get the DJI rc2 controller.
If you’re using the rcn2 controller, where you have to attach your phone, it could cause heating issues for your phone.
It happened to me, and it definitely affects the performance of your phone when you’re connecting it to your controller.
It’s always better to have a dedicated controller for your drone.
The DJI Mini 4 Pro: A Game-Changing Tiny Drone
360 Tracking: A New Level of Precision
One of the most anticipated features of the DJI Mini 4 Pro is its 360 tracking capability. With this advanced technology, you no longer have to worry about losing sight of your subject. The drone intelligently tracks your target as it moves, ensuring you capture every moment with stunning clarity. Whether you’re filming action sports or wildlife, this feature will undoubtedly elevate your footage to new heights.
Color Grading with Precision
If you’re a professional filmmaker or a hobbyist who loves post-production work, you’ll be thrilled with the color grading capabilities of the DJI Mini 4 Pro. With dlog M, you can capture footage in a flat profile, providing you with more dynamic range and flexibility in post-production. This means you’ll have greater control over the final look of your videos, allowing you to create stunning visuals that truly stand out.
