Today, we are testing the tracking feature of the DJI Mini 4 Pro drone to capture unique shots of our 60-acre off-grid Michigan property. The tracking feature will allow the drone to follow me and my tractor as I move around the property. This test will also include capturing aerial views of the property, the river, the trails, and the entire landscape.

    Flying Conditions and Battery Usage

I chose to conduct this test early in the morning, as the wind has been strong in recent days. Flying the drone in windy conditions requires more power, which results in shorter battery life. The drone comes with three batteries, but in high winds, all three batteries can be depleted in less than an hour. It is essential to consider weather conditions when planning drone flights to optimize battery usage.

    Aerial View of the Property

Using the waypoints feature of the drone, I captured aerial footage of the front of our property. While we do not own the side of the road shown in the footage, the drone’s circular route feature allowed me to capture an overview of the entire property from the front edge. As I continue to familiarize myself with the drone’s functionalities, I aim to improve control over its flight path for more precise shots.

    Exploring the Property from Above

Here you can see our garage and barn that we have toward the front of the property. We have a video about that Barn being delivered by the Amish Builders Ill, put a link in the description in case youre wondering the Drone. Doesnt actually fly this this fast. I sped up the footage by 10 fold so that we can get this into a reasonably long. Video for you to see at this point were at the back of the property at one of the back corners and now were moving along to the other back corner.

    Flight along the River

It goes a little bit quickly through this point and right about now were at the other corner on the back side, where you can see the river down below. But this is when I triggered the return to home feature because I was running a little a little bit low on the battery life. So I wanted to get a new Fresh battery in before I flew right over that River and potentially could have fallen in it and lost the Drone forever. I was pleasantly surprised by how well this drone can land itself. The return to home feature that I used about 10 times today landed either perfectly on the Launchpad or just a few inches to the side of it. I came back with a fresh battery and now I feel a little more ready to tackle this particular project. So were just going to look from quite a distance above at the flow of the River.

    River Access Expansion

On the back side, we used to only own about 30 yards of river access, and now we have from a linear perspective, a quarter mile. But when you consider how much it weaves back and forth its probably more like a half mile of river Frontage throughout this property, and we just love it. We’re going to do a lot of things with it. There are quite a few limbs and trees that have fallen, so it’s going to require a bit of work before we can do any tubing or kayaking on it. But there still are many places where you can easily enter it and play around and get refreshed, and we love to do that. It’s going to be a lot of fun for all of us and our family and friends that come over and want to cool off when they’re visiting.

Exploring the River with DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone

Let’s get a closer look at this River. We’re going to enter from what used to be our only entrance point. This time we’re going to stay pretty close to the surface of the water and we’ll just go as far as we feel we can comfortably go without risking the Drone. In a different location, I’ve accessed this River and fished for trout in the past, and had good success so I’m hoping we can get a few spots where we can drop some lines and see if we can catch some trout.

    Property Expansion and Boundaries

We initially purchased 40 acres and had that for a couple of years before we purchased the additional 20 acres just a few weeks ago. We specifically asked for the property line to be the river, which is great because we don’t ever have to worry if we’re on our property. Up into the back corner, where it borders other neighbors’ properties, the DJI Mini 4 Pro drone comes with obstacle avoidance from all directions, but it doesn’t recognize the small sticks and twigs that don’t have leaves on them. Since that’s the case with a lot of the branches that are darting out here, I decided this is about as far as I’m willing to go. I don’t want this to fall in the river and lose it forever.

    Exploring the Trails

So once again, I press the return to home button and I let it make its way back once again. It sticks The Landing for our next route. Lets take a few of the trails that we recently cleared. I have some videos of us clearing these trails and getting a lot of the Fallen, trees and branches out of the way so that we can access all of our 60 Acres. Once again, there is still one more Trail left to clear, but I hope to finish that this weekend these trails are filled with so many memories over the years, although we’ve only owned this land a couple of years, the previous owner was very generous to let me And my family access this and our kids had so many great memories and now we’re making new memories with our grandkids.

    Aerial View of the Property

Let’s take another aerial look, but from a different vantage point. This is not quite halfway across the property, and here you can see a lot of various types of Evergreens. On the back side of the property, we have a lot of Maples and Oaks and beach trees and all types; we have a wide variety. The new 20 acres that we own also has a lot of birch trees, which are just beautiful.

    Object Tracking Functionality

Now I’ll demonstrate the functionality that this drone has to track an object, whether that’s a person or a vehicle. In this case, I have it automatically tracking me in what is a parallel setting so it’s supposed to run.

    Tracking and Following

During the first use of the DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone, there were some issues with tracking and following. When obstacles such as branches obstructed the drone’s view of the subject, it sometimes lost track and had to be reset. However, despite these challenges, the drone was able to follow the subject quite well, even in windy conditions. It displayed reliability and stability in its movements, improving over the course of the initial use.

    Exploring Settings

While experimenting with the drone’s settings, there were opportunities to learn and understand the various features and functions it offers. Setting oneself as the object to be tracked allowed for a hands-on exploration of the drone’s capabilities. Although there were instances where the drone lost track when the subject moved behind obstacles, overall, the performance was satisfactory, especially considering the challenging windy conditions.

    Potential Applications

Despite the initial learning curve, the DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone showed promise for a variety of applications on the 60-acre off-grid Michigan property. From monitoring and surveying the land to capturing aerial views for projects near the property’s entrance, the drone demonstrated its potential usefulness. With continued practice and refinement of settings, the drone is poised to become a valuable tool for enhancing the property’s management and development.

    First Use of the Drone

Recently, I decided to try out the DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone for the first time on our 60-acre off-grid property in Michigan. The drone provided a whole new perspective of our land from above, allowing me to capture stunning aerial views.

    Aerial View of the Property

As I flew the drone over our property, I was amazed at the vast expanse of land that we owned. The drone’s camera captured breathtaking footage of the trees, fields, and meadows that make up our off-grid paradise. It was truly a unique experience to see our property from a bird’s eye view.

    Review of the Drone

The DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone performed exceptionally well during its first use. The video quality was excellent, and the drone was easy to pilot, even for a beginner like myself. I was able to control the drone smoothly and capture some amazing footage of our property.

    First Flight Experience

The first use of our DJI Mini 4 Pro drone was an exciting experience. As we lifted off and soared into the sky, we were able to capture stunning aerial views of our 60-acre off-grid Michigan property. The drone handled beautifully, providing smooth and stable footage.

Review of the DJI Mini 4 Pro

The DJI Mini 4 Pro proved to be a powerful and versatile drone. Its compact size made it easy to transport and maneuver, while its high-quality camera captured crisp and clear images. The drone’s battery life was impressive, allowing us to capture footage for an extended period of time.

    Aerial View of our Property

The aerial view of our property was truly breathtaking. We were able to see our land from a whole new perspective, highlighting its vast size and natural beauty. The drone footage showed our off-grid lifestyle in a unique and captivating way, showcasing the serene surroundings and peaceful atmosphere.

    Conclusion

Overall, I am thrilled with the DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone and look forward to using it more in the future to explore and document our off-grid adventures. The drone has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for capturing the beauty of our property from above.

I hope you enjoyed having this unique vantage point on our property. I also hope that you enjoyed the video and review, and this first use of our DJI Mini 4 Pro.
