DJI Mini 2 Cinematic Drone Review – 2023
The Weight and Size
So this drone was released in November 2020 and, for me personally, is still one of the best drones for its price. Now, the first thing that I like the most about this drone is the weight. It weighed only 249 grams. That means that you can fly almost all around the world and you don’t need a license. All you need is a registration. The second thing that I like the most is the size. I know that if the wind picks up it’s quite difficult to fly, but I was flying it in quite windy conditions – and all I can say is that it held up quite okay, but the battery drained a little bit quicker. But yeah, it’s a perfect size to put it in the lens pocket and go on a high current shoot.
Comparison with Other Drones
Now let’s talk about how it compares to other drones. We all know that we cannot compare it to a cinema drone with the red camera strap on top of it, but we can compare it to maybe other DJI Mavic drones. So before this drone, I had a DJI Spark and compared to this, the DJI Spark was absolute garbage. So it’s a big improvement from other small DJI drones. I have never flown other DJI Mavic drones, but my good friend has a DJI Mavic 2, and the only thing we can really talk about is the camera quality and the sensor. Because right now, you get a 10-kilometer range on all DJI drones and around 30 minutes of flight time.
Sensor and Camera
When it comes to the DJI Mini 2 Cinematic Drone’s sensors and camera, there are a few things to consider. For beginners, the lack of sensors may initially seem like a problem. However, experienced pilots often turn off the sensors to fly closer to objects, so the absence of sensors isn’t a significant issue.
Moving on to the camera quality, there is one main issue that emerges when doing heavier color grading. The image tends to fall apart quite quickly. This can be attributed to the small camera sensor. Nonetheless, apart from this, there are no other noticeable issues with the camera’s performance.
Overall Quality
Despite the aforementioned limitations, the overall quality of the DJI Mini 2 Cinematic Drone remains exceptional. It has the capability to shoot in 4K at up to 30 frames per second, as well as in 2.7K and 1080p at up to 60 frames per second. In terms of quality, it is comparable to other small drones available in the market today.
After three years of owning this drone, I can confidently say that I have zero complaints about its performance. It has remained as reliable as the day I bought it, and the battery life hasn’t deteriorated. On average, the drone can fly for approximately 25 to 30 minutes, depending on various factors such as flying style and weather conditions.
Not only is the drone itself in impeccable condition, but the accompanying cables and controller are also still in pristine condition. This durability makes the DJI Mini 2 Cinematic Drone a safe choice, even if you’re considering purchasing a used one.
Is the drone still worth it in 2023?
Now, the question arises: is the DJI Mini 2 Cinematic Drone still worth investing in, considering it’s now 2023? My answer to that is a resounding yes. Despite its limitations, the drone’s overall quality, performance, and durability remain top-notch. Its ability to capture high-quality footage and its reliability make it a valuable asset for both beginners and experienced drone enthusiasts alike.
4K Shooting Capability
The DJI Mini 2 is a compact drone that packs a powerful punch. One of its notable features is its ability to shoot in 4K resolution. In today’s time, where high-resolution content is becoming the norm, the Mini 2 offers the perfect solution for capturing stunning aerial footage. With its 4K shooting capability, you can expect crisp and detailed videos that will impress even the most discerning viewers.
Practicality and Price
When it comes to drones, practicality is key. The DJI Mini 2 excels in this area, offering unmatched convenience and ease of use. Weighing under 250 grams, it falls within the category of drones that do not require registration in many countries. This makes it an ideal choice for both beginners and experienced drone enthusiasts.
In terms of price, the DJI Mini 2 stands out from the competition. While you may be tempted to opt for the latest model, the DJI Mini 3, it comes at a much higher cost. If you’re looking to get a cinematic drone at a reasonable price, consider purchasing a used DJI Mini 2 in perfect condition. It offers exceptional value for money and performs admirably even in 2023.
Best Price to Quality Ratio
If you’re on the lookout for a cinematic drone that offers the best price to quality ratio, the DJI Mini 2 should be your top choice. While there may be other drones available at a slightly higher price, the Mini 2 delivers exceptional performance without breaking the bank. Its compact size, ease of use, and 4K shooting capability make it a winner in terms of value for money.
The DJI Mini 2 is a great drone in terms of weight and size. Its compact design allows for easy transport and its lightweight construction means that you can fly it without the need for a license in most places. Compared to previous models like the DJI Spark, it represents a significant improvement in performance. While it may not be comparable to high-end cinema drones, it offers impressive camera quality and a decent flight range. Overall, the DJI Mini 2 is a reliable and versatile option for those looking to capture cinematic shots from the sky.
The DJI Mini 2 is a cinematic drone that continues to impress even in 2023. With its 4K shooting capability, practicality, and competitive pricing, it ticks all the boxes for those looking to capture stunning aerial footage. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned drone pilot, the DJI Mini 2 offers a winning combination of features that are hard to beat. So, if you’re in the market for a new drone or contemplating whether to upgrade, the DJI Mini 2 should be at the top of your list.
