The Introduction of DJI Air 3
Finally, after a long wait, I have purchased my first drone, the DJI Air 3. In this video, I will be reviewing this new product from DJI. Let me clarify that this review is not endorsed by DJI, but rather my own personal opinion and experience with the product.
About DJI Air 3
The DJI Air 3 drone is not exactly new as it was launched approximately 2 months ago on July 25, 2023. The version I acquired is the DJI Air 3 Flymore Combo, rc2 edition. It is priced at around Rp23,400,000 in the marketplace, and I managed to get a cashback of Rp1,000,000, making the final price Rp22,400,000.
Unboxing the DJI Air 3
The first item I received in the package was a carrying case, which I promptly removed from the table as it was taking up space. Secondly, there was a manual guidebook, which I also set aside to prevent clutter. Lastly, there were spare propellers, which I removed as well to avoid any unnecessary distractions. The main components include the DJI Air 3 drone itself, the RC2 remote control, and two spare batteries with a charging hub.
Reasons for Purchasing the DJI Air 3
I have been dreaming of owning a drone for a long time, even mentioning it in my videos as early as 8 months ago. In fact, my desire to buy a drone began about 2 years ago, but I only managed to fulfill it recently. As for why I chose the DJI Air 3, there were a couple of reasons. Firstly, I am a beginner, so I didn’t want to spend too much time considering different drone brands. DJI is a reputable brand and seemed like a good choice for a beginner like me. Secondly, it fit within my budget and fulfilled my needs. I did have a choice between the newly launched DJI Mini 4 Pro and the DJI Air 3, but after careful consideration and watching various channels, I chose the DJI Air 3 based on my budget and requirements.
The Features of DJI Air 3
The DJI Air 3 comes equipped with several impressive features. It has a 48-megapixel camera, allowing for high-quality photos and videos. The drone is also capable of recording 4K videos at 60 frames per second, ensuring smooth and detailed footage. The DJI Air 3 offers a maximum flight time of 34 minutes, which is quite impressive for its size. Additionally, it has built-in obstacle avoidance sensors, ensuring safe and hassle-free flights. The drone also comes with intelligent flight modes, such as ActiveTrack, Point of Interest, and Waypoints, making it easier to capture stunning aerial shots. Review DJI Air 3 – Finally, Our First Drone!
After much consideration, we have finally decided to go for the DJI Air 3 drone. This decision was based on several factors, including the dual primary cameras, compact body dimensions, and wind resistance, making it suitable for outdoor activities. As someone who enjoys going to the beach and mountains, I needed a drone that could withstand the elements and provide a smooth flying experience.
Specifications
The DJI Air 3 drone, when folded without propellers, measures 207 x 1005 x 911 mm. When unfolded, it has dimensions of 2588 x 326 x 1058 mm. It weighs approximately 720 grams. These specifications can be verified on the official DJI website for cross-checking.
Gimbal Lock
On the front of the drone, there is a gimbal lock that needs to be opened before turning on the drone. This is an important step to ensure that the gimbal is not damaged when powering on the drone. Opening the gimbal lock allows the gimbal to move freely and smoothly.
Dual Primary Cameras
After unlocking the gimbal, we can access the dual primary cameras. The first one is a wide-angle camera located at the bottom with a 113-inch lens and a resolution of 48 megapixels, equivalent to 24mm with an aperture of f1.7. The second camera is located at the top and is a triple medium telephoto camera, also with a 113-inch lens, 48-megapixel resolution, and equivalent to 70mm with an aperture of 2.
Impressions
The DJI Air 3 has exceeded our expectations so far. The compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry and maneuver. The quality of the footage captured by the dual cameras is impressive, offering both wide-angle and telephoto perspectives. The drone’s stability in windy conditions is noteworthy, allowing for smooth and steady footage.
Video Recording Capabilities
The DJI Air 3 drone is equipped with an impressive video recording capability. It is capable of recording videos in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (FPS) and slow motion footage at up to 100 FPS in landscape mode. It also has the ability to capture portrait videos using cropping software with a resolution of 27k at 60 FPS. However, it is important to note that the drone can only be used in video mode for portrait videos, and not in photo mode. There are three video modes available – Normal HLG, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HDR) format, and a lock gamma mode which allows for color grading.
Omni-Directional Sensing
One of the standout features of this drone is its omni-directional sensing capability. This means that it is equipped with collision sensors that are extremely useful for beginners to avoid crashing into objects in its surroundings. It is worth mentioning that the sensors do not function at night, and also do not work when the drone is in sport mode. In addition to the collision sensors, the DJI Air 3 also includes other standard DJI features that make capturing footage easier, such as quick shot, master shot, hyperlapse, waypoint, and several other standard DJI features that have been extensively covered by other reviewers.
Internal Memory and Remote Control
The DJI Air 3 drone comes with 8GB of internal memory, which is quite useful if you don’t have a micro SD card. Moving on to the remote control, the package I purchased included the RC2 remote, which comes with a built-in screen. This is convenient as it saves the hassle of having to use a separate smartphone with the remote. The remote control uses the latest DJI transmission technology, the ocusync 4. While I’m not entirely sure of the differences compared to the previous version, I have heard from other YouTubers that there is a slight increase in the drone’s flying range, although not significant. Overall, the remote control is similar to previous versions.
Battery and Charging Hub
The DJI Air 3 drone is equipped with a 4-cell battery which offers a decent capacity. The charging hub allows for convenient and efficient charging of the batteries. It is worth mentioning that the charging hub is capable of charging up to 4 batteries simultaneously, which is a great feature for those who want to maximize their flying time.

Battery Life and Footage
The DJI Air 3 comes with three batteries, allowing for a total flight time of around 100 minutes. This is more than enough to capture footage or other videos during your flights. Additionally, the DJI R3 charging hub is a game changer, as it enables battery transfers between devices. If, for example, you have three batteries, you can use the charging hub to distribute the remaining battery life. Two batteries will be reduced, while one will be fully charged. This feature is incredibly useful, especially when you need additional footage and require a backup.

Flight Test at Bukit Cab
We conducted a flight test at Bukit Cab to showcase the capabilities of the DJI Air 3. The footage we captured during this test will be reviewed later. The drone performed excellently, and we were able to take off and land smoothly with manual control. It’s worth noting that landing by hand is preferable in dusty environments to prevent the gimbal from getting damaged. Overall, the flight test was successful, and we were impressed with the drone’s performance.
Flight Over Waterfall in Sir District
Continuing our adventure, we headed to a waterfall located in the Sir District near Bukit Siaba. The stunning scenery around the waterfall was perfect for capturing footage using the DJI Air 3. We are excited to review the footage later and see the incredible shots we were able to capture from the drone’s perspective.
