Now the specs are identical, except for price, so what’s different about them? Let’s take a look at the two drones and see how they compare.
Mini Drones in General
The mini 2 is an awesome drone. When it was released, it was fantastic. You got a solid upgrade to a 4k camera. DJI has stopped making the mini 2 and replaced it with the mini 2 SE, which does not have 4K capabilities. However, now we have the mini 4K option, which has the same specs as the mini 2 but with some differences in the camera quality.
Camera Quality
When tested, the cameras of the mini 4K and mini 2 are actually a little different. It’s hard to say if one is better or worse, but there are noticeable differences between the two cameras.
Mini Drones Market
It used to be that there weren’t many good mini drones available, other than those from DJI. The alternatives were either too expensive or not of good quality. However, now there are more options available under $300, such as the mini 4K Holy Stone and the FI Mini 2.
Comparing Mini Drones Under $300
Now cfly has a couple of options: one about 150 bucks, the other about 250 and theres, even the penic adom, which is about 300, so lots of mini drone Options under 300 theyre all pretty comparable, but I still think that DJI is the way to go. The user interface is cleaner, uh, the camera is solid and you just know what youre getting. There is one exception to that rule, the Specta mini, which has not been released and Im, not certain that it actually is going to get released. It is actually the mini. 4K, so keep that in mind and its a lower price point.
Hardware Differences
All that said lets talk more about the mini 2 and the mini 4K in terms of Hardware. The biggest difference here is this led UPF front on the mini 2 that doesn’t exist on the mini 4K internally Im guessing there are some differences just because this is such an older drone, so Im guessing that DJI probably found different suppliers or slightly different parts, but Overall, the specs are the same theyre going to perform pretty much the same way, but the cameras look a little different.
Camera Quality
The mini 4K is actually probably Clos related to the mini 2sc than the actual Mini 2 uh. It just has a better camera, probably a better processor uh, and it can shoot 4K. It is 20 more expensive, though all right so were going to look at some footage from first the mini 4K and then the mini 2 both shot at 4K 30.
Comparison of Mini 4K and Mini 2
This is the mini 4K and now were doing that same shot same day, just a couple of minutes later, with the mini 2 right similar, but slightly different colors all right here we are with the mini Music, 4K and now, with the mini 2, so Ill. Let you kind of decide, you know theyre again, comparable drones, specs are identical and uh. Here I have a couple of shots side by side, so you can kind of see uh a little bit different color profiles. I think the the mini 4K looks a little bit. Bluer, maybe a little bit darker, even whereas the uh mini 2 here on the right yeah, just not quite as dark, maybe a little bit brighter, so personal preference camera quality is a personal preference.
Pricing and Availability
So Im going to let you decide which one you like better, but the the end of the day. The mini 4K is 299, whereas the mini 2, but they not producing anymore, so its more expensive, dont opt for it unless its something that you really really like. But I think Id go for the Mini 3 or the Mini 4 Pro theyre more expensive. They are better drones. I promise you theyre better, but theyre a lot more expensive, so under 299 the mini 4K is the way to go. Unless you know you, you dont, like DJI, or you really want to follow me feature, then some of those other drones have that option. Full disclosure here, my mini 4K – is actually the Specta mini theyre, basically produced at the same Factory, some of them roll off and are branded DJI sold by DJI.
